My Hamstery

I’m a breeder of dwarf hamsters in Sweden, I breed all four dwarf spicies.

My hamstery was started in March 2009, and I became a registered

breeder in the Swedish hamster association in May 2009.

In April 2010 I judge my first hamster show as a dwarf hamster judge.

In 2010 I was elected treasurer in the hamster association.

The goals for my breeding are to get healthy hamsters with really good

and stable temperament.

My hamster lines are pure, I have not any hybrids in my lines.

In Sweden we have a pedigree book that has been kept for more

than 10 years. Even if the Swedish hamster association believes that

mandarin is a mutation in winter white lines I don’t have them in my lines.

So my primary goal as a breeder is, that all hamsters that I sale have

a temperament that make them suitable as a pet for children.

My buyers are first and most families with small children, it is very important

for me that the children can handle the hamster without making the hamster or

child stressed.

For me it also means that the hamsters that I sale may not be skittish or timid,

which I have notes that some winter white babies are.
The hamster need to allow the keeper to pet it in the cage and to be
taken out of the cage, which some Campbells don’t allow.

If a buyer experience that a hamster gets too territory or any other changes
that make them uncomfortable with the hamster, I’ll let them return it and
get another hamster instead. It’s also important that the parents can trust
that their pet is a family pet that will not bit, run or jump because it’s afraid
of hands holding it.

As an assurance for the parents and for me as a breeder

(I want to know if a hamster from my hamstey dosn't meet my high standard

of temperament and cuddly) I make sure that the families knows,

that if the hamster has a bad temper they need to contact me

and get another hamster insteed.

Today (middle of November 2011) I have only exchange about than 1 % of my

sold hamsters, since my start it is about 400 hamsters I have sold.

I work hard to prevent diabetes in my dwarf lines that means that all my hamsters are tested between 2 and 4 times a year. I test male and female before breeding them and I test all offspring before I sale them. I test all four spices of dwarfs.

A hamster with a urine test positive for glucose often are put down same day but some times I keep it as a show hamster, but I will never use it in breeding.

I started this test routine in December 2009.
